Self care while social distancing

As crazy and scary as these times are, the one thing that I can see as a positive outcome of the COVID-19 outbreak is that it is forcing us to slow down. I am an huge fan of r e s t. That doesn’t necessarily mean sleep, it just means to be mindful of when your body, your mind and you soul needs to slow down. So I hope that some of these tips cause you to take a breather during this time and find a place of peace. A key to staying healthy isn’t just eating the right things, but setting aside time to make sure your body has all that it needs!

Rest is not the absence of activity but the presence of peace.

Yoga

You know what I love most about yoga, it’s only effective if you do everything properly. That means proper breathing, proper poses, etc. You can’t rush through yoga, it takes time and the more you give into it, the better you’ll feel. If you’re finding its hard to stay hopeful and peaceful during the madness, I’d suggest yoga. Unplug from everything for 10-20 minutes and give into the poses and routine completely. My all time favorite virtual yoga instructor is @SarahbethYoga on Youtube!

Face Mask and Eye creams

There’s nothing like a good face mask to help you relax! Pampering yourself at home can be just as effective as going into the spa. I like to throw my robe on, apply my face and under eye masks, hop into my bed and play soft melodies from the Relax Melodies app (which is also a great app for sleeping). Once I close my eyes, I’m gone. Into a blissful place of relaxation and stillness. Not to mention all the skincare benefits I receive from my masks. My top two favorite for relaxation are: Origins Hello Calm Mask & Re:P Bio Fresh Mask.

Binge A Show

Netflix and Still! For us single folks, who just need to decompress and destress. There’s something about mindlessly binge watching a show that relaxes my soul. I guess because in that moment I’m only really focused on one thing. Sure, I can multitask, but if the show captivates me, I probably won’t be able to focus on anything else for the next few hours. Since we should all be inside, in self quarantine, now is a perfect time to find a show to binge, my best recommendation— Love is Blind.

Organize a space in your home

Clean Spaces, clear minds. Cutter creates chaos, I don’t care if you’re not a neat freak, I’m telling you, your life will feel much better with just a little bit of organization. Since there’s no bars, extracurricular activities to attend for the next few weeks it’s the perfect time to clean up and get organized. I am currently prepping my room for the good ol seasonal swap out. I tend to get messier around this time and I’m trying to stay ahead of the game.

Read a favorite book

Last but not least, R E A D. I have at least 4 books that I’ve started and haven’t finished, mainly because instead of reading them, I’m out and about doing God knows what. This is a perfect opportunity for me to catch up on some great reads and I suggest you pick up a book too; remember kids— reading is fundamental!

Connect virtually

For those who may be struggling with spending a great deal of time alone, find ways to connect virtually! Chat on YouTube, FaceTime a friend. I love how the world of social media allows us to be able to connect without meeting up in person! (You can always hop on a Group FaceTime chat with your coworkers haha, it’ll be like you never left the office).

Happy social distancing,
