My new little watch!

IMG_6262So I haven't really given you guys a life update, but I'm working two jobs now! My part time job with Bauer Media and my freelance job with Bigcitylittleblog.com! Loving them both and excited for what the future will hold! While I write for bigcitylittleblog, one of the other responsibilities I have is attending events to write about. I attended a fitness event two weeks ago and received a TomTom fitness watch. It is my utmost motivation to workout again. This cool, cute little toy allows me to save my workouts, store music, track my heart rate and sleep patterns, as well as many other fascinating things.
I've been having fun with it! and I'm loving the results it's producing. I haven't quite tried the sleep tracker portion of the watch but I will be this week! Definitely need to know if I'm getting enough beauty sleep, especially with the gorgeous designer bags (under my eyes) that I have! Lol.Well I hope that everyone is having a glorious Monday and if you interested in buying a TomTom, head over to their site now!Xoxo,Kelsley

1 Year Health Journey!

So I'm on this health journey which started on August 11! What I'm doing is taking my vitamins. I know, I know, I'm already supposed to be doing that but to be honest I usually only take vitamins when the doctor tells me I need to. And even when I do that it's usually for about a week and then I stop. This time, I'm committed! So let's talk about what I'm taking.I'm taking a multi-vitamin just to make sure I'm getting everything that I might be missing when I eat. And so far so good. I feel healthier and I'm not as tired so I definitely needed the multi vitamin.  I'm also taking a Vitamin E supplement and testing that out to see if it helps my hair and skin, especially because we are heading to the winter months and this is usually when everything gets dry! The last of the three vitamins I'm taking is Biotin and this will be the one that I will update you guys on visually! If you didn't know, I cut my hair in June (of this year 2015) to my collarbone. As of today I would say that my hair grew about 2 inches in 4.5 months, with most of the growth from August until now. So for my hair I'd say the Biotin is working, but for my nails, not so much. My nails used to be super long, to the point where most people thought they were tips, but lately they've been growing slowly and breaking off easily. On this journey with Biotin, I'm really trying to see a significant hair growth in hopes to be able to cut it off in June and donate it, which is something I thought I'd never be able to do. As far as my nails, I just want them to grow. I miss having long nails and I'm getting very tempted to put acrylic ones on again but I'm resisting. So my journal of this journey starts today and I'll try to update you guys about once a month!Stay tuned! Who likes counting calories?

I do not! And I know some of you must be saying, "you're so skinny, why are you counting calories?" Well my fellow readers, I count my calories to make sure I'm actually eating enough food each day. Everyone who's anyone knows that I'm a fatty, but lately I've been easily distracted and if I'm caught up in something else I will forget to eat. I started to notice slight changes in my body and I was definitely losing weight. So to get back on track, I started counting calories again!myplate_header I love Livestrong ! They have so many healthy eating tips for those who are to trying to lose or gain weight. They also have an amazing food tracking app called, MyPlate. On here they give you food suggestions, note your progress and also have chats so you can talk to others who are in a similar situation as you!

If you haven't checked out my best friend, Laurice's blog laurice-imani.com then you need to head over there right now! She's blogging about her amazing weight loss journey and she's doing great so far. She likes to use another app called myfitnesspal, which is wonderful as well!I hope that everyone is trying to stay fit and healthy, not only for the summer, but making it a lifestyle! I am a very big advocate of taking care of your body in the best way that you can. So that doesn't mean you have to compare yourselves to other, that means just focus on YOU! If you're not a fan of running 5 miles a day, find something else that sparks your interest and stick with it. Whether you're trying to lose 20 pounds or gain a few, don't let others or the media get you down, progress is still progress and you'll reach your goal if you keep pushing! Xoxo, Kelsley Broomfield

"There's so much to be thankful for"

“Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, lightly season the ground beef with adobo and sazón. Take a large skillet and cook the meat with sofrito, as the meat cooks, cut the ripe plantains into long slices and fry them until golden. Then spread 2 large servings of ground beef into the baking pan. Once it is spread, place the cooked plaintains over the meat. Continue to spread another layer of ground beef and follow with the plaintains. Repeat. Lay the last layer of ground beef and then take the beaten egg and spread it over the ground beef. Place it into the oven and 40 minutes later, there you have it. That’s the dish Norma Broomfield looks forward to making for thanksgiving, pastelon, or what she likes to call, ‘Puerto Rican Lasagna’,” (taken from my feature story: Thanksgiving Day). This is one of my highly anticipated Thanksgiving Day dishes. Food is definitely something my entire family can agree on, we all adore it!DSCN0852 I love thanksgiving, and not only because I get to stuff my face without judgment, but truly because I love my family. We are the epitome of a melting pot. We’ve got some Puerto Rican flavor, African American flavor, Costa Rican, a hint of Jamaican, some Pakistani, Dominican, Dutch, Scottish, Lithuanian, Irish and tad of German for the whip cream on top. So with all these different flavors it is always bound to be a good time. We each bring something different, but amusing. That’s why I look forward to Thanksgiving. We have our differences, our hair textures, our skin complexions, our disagreements for sure, but the one thing that has always remained constant for me over these 21 years is no matter what is going on, I still feel their love. Even if were not all together, or haven’t spoken in awhile, when we reunite its as if we never left each other, a fantastic time. Each and every one of them contributes this this splendid day, mind you my mother is one of eight, my father is one of four, and for the most part both families unite on Thanksgiving, so you can understand me when I say there is so much to be thankful for! God has truly blessed us. I hope that your thanksgiving was as magnificent as mine.
Be thankful,Xoxo
